NOTICED MORE WILD FLOWERS AND BIODIVERSITY ON THE COMMON THIS YEAR?

Behind the scene loads of planting has been going on by volunteers. PM me here if you want to help . A summary of recent planting is below and lot of thanks to Mike Davis, Ruth Lyon and Andrea Chapman for their hard work.

Recent Planting

  • 450 plugs have been planted on 3rd and 8th November.
  • Woodland opposite Santa Maria: 130 total, Wood Sage and Wood Avens.
  • Hazel coppice, Behind Old Post Office orchard: 80 total, Wood Sage and Wood Avens, Planting on margins as above.
  • Cricket pitch, Damp margins: 20 Pepper Saxifrage, Shade: 20 wood Sage
  • Jubilee, Upper: 100 (including 1 {ONE Calluna vulgaris. Salad Burnett, Tansy, Dyers
  • Lower: 100 Salad Burnett and Tansy
  • On the Lower Jubilee there is an abundance of gorse seedlings which could be used to establish in other areas of the Common. Now is the ideal time to lift them, either to re-plant immediately or to pot them for planting next Autumn (possibly the best idea).
