Q- There are about 50 holes like this up on the jubilee hill right now. An inch deep, turf left next to the hole, most have poo in them. Any idea what’s making them?
A -The “poo” is in fact a soil plug, taken out when plants were inserted by the conservation group to improve wild flower diversification. Please DO NOT put the turf back into the hole- there is a small plant trying to grow there – like Dyer’ s weed which should be ideal for the slightly acidic conditions. (You can just see the dark green plant with slightly different shaped leaves in the middle of the hole.)
If you want to learn more about the common and work being undertaken to improve the ecology, get in contact with Mike Davis at Appletree Cottage or the Bringsty Common MC chair. More volunteers would be welcome, especially for the woodland management work being planned
